About the Artist

The Suffolk born artist has been living in North Yorkshire for the past 20 years.  She recently moved back to the Suffolk coast with her family and began a new series of works inspired by the beautiful coastal views and endless skies.

" I am extrememly fortunate to have moved from one Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to another.   I am fascinated by the colours, shapes and textures that are formed in landscapes through changing light and shade and differing weather conditions.  It is a subject matter that has held my attention since University; where I studied Fine Art (BA Hons).

When creating a piece of work, I either use my own photography for reference, or work directly from the landscape I'm painting. Most of my paintings begin with thin washes of oil paint and charcoal.  Oil paint is then layered, which builds texture, and finally bursts of pastel create soft, diffused tones.

I try where possible to use natural materials.  This means that I use organic oil paints and natural thinners and brush cleaner -  no harmful chemicals!

I have had several studio spaces.  My first was the 'horsebox' on top of a steep Nidderdale hill - which looked quirky, but wasn't practical during the long, wet, winter months in Yorkshire. I then set up a new space with gallery in the King Street Workshop complex in Pateley Bridge.  My unit formed part of a working group of creatives including jewellers, sculptors, glass blowers etc.

Now I have moved back to Suffolk, I have set up a studio in my summerhouse."
